All occupants, including two infants, brought to hospital in Woolwich crash

Both drivers, a front-seat passenger, and two infants were brought to Maine Medical Center after two vehicles collided, officials said.

WOOLWICH, Maine — All occupants traveling in two vehicles that were involved in a crash Friday morning on Route 1 in Woolwich were brought to the hospital, including two infants.

Emergency officials responded to the crash around 9:40 a.m. where two vehicles had collided at the intersection of Route One and Montsweag Road, the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Sheriff's officials reported that the initial investigation suggests the driver of a Subaru Outback was attempting to make a left turn onto Route 1 from Montsweag Road when they reportedly pulled out into the path of a Chrysler 300 that was traveling northbound on Route 1.

The Subaru was driven by a woman from Woolwich, and she was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The Chrysler was driven by a woman from Lisbon, with an adult passenger in the front seat and two infants secured in car seats in the back of the vehicle.

All occupants, including the infants, were brought to Maine Medical Center, though the extent of their injuries was unknown as of 2 p.m., Sagadahoc County officials said in the release.

Route 1 was closed for several hours Friday morning but had reopened around noon, sheriff's officials said.

The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by Woolwich Fire and Rescue, West Bath Fire Department, and the Wiscasset Emergency Services Unit.

The crash is under investigation by Cpl. Ian Alexander and is being reconstructed by Detective Brian Carleton.
